In Chief Executive - The US Army’s Secret to Building a Leader-Driven, Learning Culture: After Action ReviewsMonday, October 01, 2018
TLDG faculty member MG (Ret.) Robert Ivany, Ph.D., launched an article in partnership with Chief Executive magazine about how CEOs and their companies are embracing the AAR and the superb benefits as a result. In the 1980s, the 200-year-old U.S. Army embarked on a rebuilding effort to change its culture, with widespread changes in doctrine, tactics, leader development and training. In order to reap the benefits of a far more demanding training regime and the investment of considerable human and material resources, they instituted an innovative method of learning: The After-Action Review (AAR), which has since been incorporated into many companies such as Nestle USA, Stryker Global Services, Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, Morgan Stanley, and Pratt & Whitney.
"Most people spend 90% of their time on tasks and 10% on leadership. Start spending 50% of your time on leadership and you will notice that others will pick up the slack on the tasks."
Colonel Sean Hannah, Ph.D.,(USA, Retired, University of Nebraska)
